o   Shanta Mining Company Limited – ongoing onsite supply chain review and improvements project since early Dec 2016

o   Ad hoc supply chain consulting work with Rio Tinto, London;

o   Iluka Exploration (Kazakhstan) -  importation and logistics for exploration project;

o   Supply chain advisory projects in Burkina Faso, Turkey, Albania and Kazakhstan;

 

o   OECD working group -  Kazakhstan Mining Competitiveness Project;  

~        7 months during 2015 designing and implementing SCM manual and electronic processes in Burkina Faso, including preparation and rollout of Supply Chain Process Manual;

~        Forensic and process health check audit at Canadian mining company in Jan 2015.

~        Supply Chain Logistics projects in Kyrgyzstan in 2014 for UK engineering company preparing DFS for new remote gold mine;

~        Procurement management in 2013 for major UK mining and steel company in Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan (7 months), with annual spend of $1.4bn;

~        Inventory management, warehousing and procurement change management for Australian company in Cote d’Ivoire (10 months in 2012)

General Director of Prolog Central Asia LLP (PCA) and instrumental in developing PCA’s business since January 2006.  PCA is a supply and service company to the mining and oil & gas industries within Central Asia.

 

With up to 20 personnel, responsible for overall management and strategy of the company, which has three procurement and logistics streams: consulting, outsourcing and purchasing services; importation and supply of equipment and materials; representation of internationally renowned manufacturers.  International and regional expertise and business acumen was essential to ensure successful and profitable performance to customers year after year. PCA developed contracts with many mining clients including FTSE 100 companies and has a number of recommendations confirming its competence.

 

Successfully completed consulting projects included

~        design and implementation of procurement policies and procedures for a chrome mine,

~        review and recommendations study for warehousing, inventory management, purchasing and financial interface for an AIM listed gold miner,

~        presentations in Paris France for two consecutive years of Hazmat and Class 7 dangerous goods transportation in CIS,

~        several supply and logistics studies for FTSE 100 and major mining companies for equipment materials and outgoing ore product,

~        hosted seminars on mining procurement legislation and local content in Kazakhstan

~        Outsourced purchasing support at a Kazakh uranium mining company for 3 years during construction.

Based in Uzbekistan, responsible for six years for Newmont’s supply chain activities in Central Asia, Turkey and Europe.  Following (my) independent SCM consulting review at Newmont’s remote Zarafshan gold-processing plant in 1998, took on the long-term task of implementing review recommendations, exceeding agreed performance targets and determining and implementing SCM policy and procedures resulting in competent supply chain, uninterrupted production and reduced inventory to $20 million. 

 

On completion, joined Newmont’s Global Supply Chain Strategy Team, establishing worldwide solutions for the Australian, Indonesian, Ghanaian, US and Peruvian mines to enhance the company’s gold mining position.  Successfully completed Newmont’s Harvard-based Negotiation Course and was a member of the Global-Denver based supply chain corporate policies, procedures and standards working group.

 

Newmont was an inaugural member of a mining focussed e-business group (Quadrem) and as team member, helped to formulate design and implementation, successfully introducing e-procurement to Central Asia.

 

Successfully, implemented ERP change (Mincom Ellipse) on time with uninterrupted processing.

Employed at the commencement of a new mine.  Designed and implemented computerised systems and procedures for purchasing, movement and storage of capital, development and operational equipment and materials on time and within budget.  Specified and introduced permanent physical warehousing, stock control and purchasing resources for over 10,000 line items at an optimum value of $4.5 million.

 

Success resulted in advisory assignments at other company mines in Turkey and Tunisia where computerised inventory and purchasing procedures were introduced, and in the United States and Canada to manage disposal of equipment and materials for mine closures.

 

Previous Relevant Employment:

1989 - 1992 World Bank: Based in Ghana, responsible for maintaining inventory and supply lines for three state owned mining properties during period of divestiture.

1991 World Bank mission to Mongolia during perestoika, to arrange tenders and contracts for subsistence materials and equipment to support a $30m emergency funding.

1984 - 1989 BCL Ltd, Botswana: As Materials Manager, responsible with a team of 150 in South Africa and Botswana for all supply chain related matters.

 

Prior years from 1972 were in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Ghana, in increasingly senior procurement positions mainly with substantial mining companies.
